ABOUT
Debbie Alamrew is an Ethiopian-American poet, performer, and advocate whose writing began as a way to amplify her voice as a shy child. Born in London and raised between England, Nigeria, and the U.S., her multicultural upbringing has shaped a unique perspective on life, identity, and human connection.

A graduate of the University of North Texas and the University of Maine School of Law, Debbie discovered her passion for spoken word poetry in college. Her debut poetry collection, A Purpose Pursued Passionately Is Powerful (2019), delves into themes of legacy, love, loss, and liberation, embracing vulnerability as a powerful source of strength.

Debbie also created and hosted the YouTube series Amplified Voices, highlighting global Black changemakers, and she has moderated numerous thought-provoking panels. Her debut poetry album, Uncovering Me (2024), is a deeply personal exploration of self and identity, reflecting her experiences as an Ethiopian woman and daughter of the diaspora.

Through her art and advocacy, Debbie continues to inspire, uplift, and unite people around the world, using her words to create spaces for connection, empowerment, and social change.

Her candid interviews have featured visionary leaders who are reimagining possibilities such as Ethiopia Habtemariam, Mumu Fresh, Claude Kameni, Kudzi Chikumbu, Dayo Okeniyi, Everette Taylor, and many more. Debbie is a bridge builder, transforming conversations into movements and platforms into catalysts for profound social change.
